Xin Liu
Two describing words: Introspective and Expansive
Artwork #1: At the End of Everything
https://artpace.org/exhibitions/at-the-end-of-everything/#
Element/Principle: Shape/Focus
In this piece Xin Liu uses a mix ridged triangular structures along with a smooth circular orb in the center. This contrast of shapes along with the the positioning of each structure of the piece provides a focal point to the circular object in the center. The sharp triangles lead to the smooth circular orb which seamlessly guides the viewers eyes to the focal point of this piece.
Artwork #2: Seedlings and Offsprings
https://pioneerworks.org/exhibitions/xin-liu-seedlings-and-offsprings
Element/Principle: Shape/Unity
In this piece Xin Liu composes a complicated structure of small pieces to create a whole. The combination of intricate design along with an overall spherical shape gives the piece a feeling of controlled chaos, in the sense that there are many components working together to create a whole. This makes the piece captivating and interesting to look at, as viewers are able to observe the small details while also being able to see the bigger picture.
